James Hayward smashed a blistering 61-ball unbeaten century as South Wilts opened their pre-season programme with a hefty 122-run win over Thames Valley League side Falkland.
He arrived at the crease with South Wilts already going well on the strength of starts by Jack Mynott (40), Eddie Abel (37) and Ian Holland (31).
In typical Hayward style, boundaries came in plentiful supply, with the Berkshire side unable to set a field to his array of ‘reverse stick’ hockey shots.
With Ben Draper hitting an unbeaten 44, and Hayward exactly 100 before retiring, South Wilts powered to 283-4 off 45 overs.
Mynott (3-29), Hayward (2-10) and former Academy seamer Ryan Murray (2-12) took seven of the nine wickets to fall as Falkland replied with 171-9.
