IBM Hursley 2nd XI away was always going to be a big challenge. The combination of only having 9 players available for the game and the opponents 1st team not having a game and strengthening was not ideal.
Having veterans Russell Rowe and Trevor Pittman, captain Matt Anderson-Emm won the toss and elected to bat first to try and get a total on the board.
This however wasn’t to be, early wickets leaving the 4s at 5/3 wasn’t the start anybody imagined. IBM’s 1st team opening bowler D.Rides ripped through the top order.
Only Russell Rowe gave any hope to the innings, rolling back the years he made 66 including 13 boundaries and was last man out with the score on 103. Ben Higton the only other batsmen getting into double figures.
With early wickets needed Sam Burton and Paul Wylie went about trying to removed the opening batsmen. This proved more difficult than expected.
Without taking a wicket IBM reached the target of 103 in the 23rd over. All in all a tough day, and the team will look to response next week when they play their first league home game.
