Emphatic 10 Wicket Win in National Knockout

In the next round of the ECB National Knockout, the 1st XI took on Sarisbury Athletic at Lower Bemerton. After a comprehensive team victory over Potterne in the previous round, confidence was high and looking to progress even further in the competition. 

Sunday captain Rob Pittman lost the toss and were sent out to bowl first. The score reached 17 when the wickets started to tumble for the visitors. Ryan Murray picked up the first wicket bowling opener Toby Mitcheson, Luke Evans then removed captain Journeaux to leave Sarisbury 25/2. 

The South Wilts bowlers never let up and kept taking wickets at regular intervals. Murray with 1/22 from 5 overs, but it was Evans who bowled his 9 over spell straight through ripping through the batting line up taking 4/18. With some good quality catches behind the stumps from the corden Evans bowled with great control going past the outside edge on numerous occasions. The score had now reached 52/6. 

With the introduction of Matt Burton, there was no let up, picking up the wicket of Josh Hill caught at slip by Rob Pittman he bowled a superb line and length, figures of (7-2-8-1). 

Spin duo Dan Cox and Rob Pittman each picked up 2 wickets and completed the innings quickly with only 28 overs being bowled. 

With a small total to chase South Wilts openers Eddie Abel (28*) and Will Wade (37*)  were positive and latched onto any width and full pitch deliveries. The innings only lasted 11.5 overs when a boundary from Abel through the covers saw the side home completeting a emphatic 10 wickets victory. 

We now move onto the next round to play Havant away on the 4th June.
