A stunning fightback from South Wilts Under 15s prevented an immediate exit from the Wiltshire County Cup.
After winning the toss and batting, South Wilts were in big trouble at 30-4 off 10 overs after a terrific opening burst from Ethan Hutchins, Sean Montgomery, Ed Smail and Bryce Furlong.
Adam Young joined opener Ben Higton at the crease and the pair put on a partnership that turned the course of the game. Young (29) batted with a great tempo whilst Higton aimed to bat through the innings.
Unfortunately Young ran himself out for 29 and with Higton holing out for 32 at 84-7, the good work looked to have been undone. However, a late blitz from Jamie Ball (18no) raised the target to 107-7, a score that had seemed unlikely at the half-way mark.
Sean Montgomery (2-5) and Ethan Hutchins (3-21) were the pick of the Potterne attack.
Potterne struggled to get the ball away against an accurate opening burst from Jayden Atkinson (4-1-1-14) and Eddie Stagg (3-0-9-1) who picked up a wicket apiece.
Jake Steele (17) and Ethan Hutchins (26) tried to gain the upper hand and up the run rate but Chris Chaddock (3-1-6-0), Ben Higton (4-0-17-1), Adam Young (2-0-6-0) and Ed Wade (4-1-11-1) produced a superb bowling performance that left Potterne well adrift at 72-4 off their 20.
