After the success of last season’s promotion to Hampshire League County 2, the 3rd XI faced Bramshaw 1st XI at home to start off their campaign. South Wilts gave a league debut to Jayden Atkinson, and what a debut it turned out to be.
After winnings the toss, stand in captain Steve Kidd sent Bramshaw into bat first, opening bowlers Atkinson and Wade bowled well early on. With the wickets shared around at the start, Atkinson then came back on and produced a fine spell of bowling picking up 6 wickets on debut. Figures of 8.4 overs 6 for 16. Only Simon Booth (42) for Bramshaw made any impact on the bowling attack, and the innings finished with the visitors all out for 168 inside 36 overs.
169 runs to win for the 3rd XI should have been straight forward, but economical bowling from Bramshaw really put the South Wilts batsmen under pressure. Henry Smith (46) and Alec Lloyd (31) where the main contributors to the run chase, and with Ben Richards (24*) hitting a six in the final over of the match the win was secured.
Next Saturday see’s the 3rd XI travel the Basingstoke and North Hants 3rd XI
