South Wilts’ 4th string earned a hard-fought victory by 3 wickets away to Longparish 3rd XI.
Bowling after losing the toss, South Wilts made a perfect start through the returning Harrison Tyler, who dismissed both openers for ducks on his way to figures of 3-26. There was also a couple of wickets for Adam Young, Paul Wylie and the in-form James Brewer as Longparish subsided to 51-5. However, through Paine, they rallied to a repectable 134-7, as the number 3 scored an unbeaten 63 from 111 deliveries.
South Wilts certainly didn’t make the chase easy for themselves, as three people made 20s but failed to go on to an innings like Paine’s earlier. However, after South Wilts’ top 5 faltered, Chris Chaddock (23*) and Tyler (23) played the crucial hands in taking the 4s to the brink of victory, which was later sealed by Josh Croom (13*). Despite these contributions, the most significant came from extras, scoring a vital unbeaten 33 which included 15 wides and 14 no balls.
The 4s host East Woodhay 2nd XI as Matt Anderson-Emm’s side look to make it six victories in a row.
