U15 Winchester League – SWCC v Fair Oak
Fair Oak 119 for 5 off 18 overs
South Wilts 120 for 2 off 16.3 overs
South Wilts Under 15s got their season off to a winning start against Fair Oak in the Winchester League on Friday evening in a 9 a side game.
South Wilts won the toss and captain Matt Falconer clearly had a plan as he won the toss and chose to bowl first. Fair Oak started well and despite some economical bowling from Falconer, Thomlinson and Nash they reached 57 without loss with both openers retired, Goodyear 25 and Clark 27.
Clever bowling changes restricted the scoring and wickets began to tumble, Evans 1-8, Ball 1-11, Wilson 1-20 & Prior 1-24 plus a run out restricted the visitors to 119-5 off 18 overs.
South Wilts reply started in positive fashion with Matt Falconer striking 21 off 8 balls before playing one shot too many and falling LBW. A partnership of 55 between Gairdner (28 not out) and Thomlinson (25 not out) was the mainstay of the reply before Finn Robinson structured a composed innings of 21 not out, manipulating the ball around the ground and running well between the wickets, to guide the team to a 6 wicket win with 9 balls to spare. 12 year old Dan Wheble looked really accomplished behind the stumps for Fair Oak, only conceding one bye.
A good game played in the right spirit was enjoyed the parents and officials.
Unfortunately 3 games fell to the weather and 2 other games were cancelled as the opposition conceded. Let’s hope for some better weather and more time on the pitch very soon.
