THE CAPTAIN SPEAKS.... PDF Print E-mail
Hope you are well and keeping yourself busy over the winter.
I thought it was about time i got in contact to let you know some of the changes over the Winter and plans for the Summer. As many of you will already know, the AGM took place before Christmas and there have been a few changes to the committee. Detailed Below:
Chairman of Selectors: TBC at Committee meeting on Friday 29th Jan.
Captains -1st XI: James Hayward
2nd XI: Tom Pearce
3rd XI: Matt Newman
4th XI: Adi Holewell
Secretary: Rob Wade
As you will see both Trev P and Matt Shellum have stepped down from their positions of 2nd and 4th XI captains respectively. I am sure i speak for all of us when i thank them for all their efforts, they are certainly not easy roles and our unavailability and injury list made these two roles particulary difficult last year and i am sure you agree they both did an excellent job. I would also like to thank Drapes for all his efforts as Chairman of Selectors, he has made my job a lot easier and did a huge amount of work behind the scenes, some of which often goes un-noticed. The other change i should mention is Peter Russell, who is stepping down after 19 years of treasurer and 40+ years on the committee, many thanks to Peter for all his work who has also spent a huge amount of time in the middle working on the wicket. Wadey has now taken over as Secretary and has already started working hard behind the scenes on a number of areas.
The plan is to have our pre-season training at Stanbridge Earls again this year, Hibby will once again run these sessions. The details for these sessions are below. I am very much looking forward to this year as we do seem to have a good pool of players and plenty of competition for places. These pre-season nets will cost each player £2, please can you remember to bring this as it is not much to ask for a 2 hour session.
Pre-season Nets: 25th Feb
                        11th March
                        25th March
                        8th April
N.B. All sessions will run from 7.30 - 9.30pm.
Our first 1st XI fixture is on the 17th April at home to Corsham, we then run through every Saturday to the end of August. We do have a few Sunday games, the Cockspur Cup and the SPL Twenty20. We have been drawn against Sarisbury Athletic away on Sunday 16th May in the Cockspur Cup. Senior training will once again take place every Thursday from 6pm, starting 15th April and running until the end of August.
I am very much looking forward to this year, i think we are now in a position where we have a strong pool of players to pick from, i see no reason why all 4 teams can't do extremely well in there respective leagues. I would also love to try and get a real sense of club spirit this year, it is such a vital part of any successful club and if we are to achieve this new Pavilion then it is something we need to do as a club. I do not mean that we all need to go to the Chapel Nightclub every week but even just pop into the clubhouse for a drink when your game has finished, i have no doubt that a strong club off the pitch reflects a strong club on the pitch. On that note, there is a golf day organised on Wednesday May 19th to raise money for the new clubhouse, would be ideal if we could get some sides made up of players, all details are on SWCC website.
Many thanks for reading this email and i will look forward to seeing you all at the first session on 25th Feb. If you need a lift or if you have any questions then feel free to get in contact with me on 07833 226 812.
Regards,
James
