Hamptworth Golf Club played host to South Wilts Cricket Club's annual Golf Day Fundraiser on Friday, bringing together players, sponsors, supporters and volunteers for a fantastic day of golf, fundraising and friendship.
After months of planning, a field of 18 teams gathered at Hamptworth for a shotgun start, with players enjoying coffee and bacon rolls before heading to their allocated tees.
Despite some uncertain forecasts earlier in the week, the weather largely behaved itself and allowed the day to proceed in excellent spirits, with plenty of competitive golf and good humour throughout.
Strong Competition on the Course
The format once again proved popular, with teams counting their best two Stableford scores on most holes and best three scores on the par threes.
After a closely contested competition, congratulations go to Adam Smith and his team High Post, who emerged victorious and claimed the South Wilts Golf Day title for 2026. Special mention should also go to our nearest-the-pin and longest-drive winners, who demonstrated that accuracy and power remain alive and well amongst the South Wilts golfing fraternity.

Record Breaking Fundraising
While the golf is always keenly contested, the real winner on the day was South Wilts Cricket Club.
Our online auction once again proved hugely successful, attracting bids from across the local community and beyond. Combined with the raffle and team entries, the event raised well over £4000, (final figure to be shared once all monies in) surpassing last year's fundraising effort and setting a new benchmark for future events.
Highlights from the auction included:
• 2027 Ashes Test Match tickets at Lord's
• Signed cricket memorabilia from Sir Alastair Cook and Sir Garfield Sobers
• Numerous golf fourballs and golfing experiences
• Family days out and local experiences
Thank You
Events such as this simply would not happen without the generosity and support of so many people.
Our sincere thanks go to:
• Hamptworth Golf Club for hosting the event and looking after us superbly throughout the day.
• All team captains and players who entered teams and supported the fundraising effort.
• The many businesses and individuals who donated auction and raffle prizes.
• Pete Tapper, whose support in organising prizes and helping on the day was invaluable.
• Everyone who bid in the auction, bought raffle tickets or helped spread the word.
Supporting Cricket in Salisbury
The funds raised will play an important role in supporting South Wilts Cricket Club as it continues to invest in junior cricket, women's and girls' cricket, coaching, facilities and the long-term future of the game in Salisbury.
The success of this year's Golf Day is another reminder of the strength of the South Wilts cricketing community and the willingness of so many people to support the club.
While this year's Golf Day has been a tremendous success, the work of supporting and developing South Wilts Cricket Club continues throughout the year.
We are always looking for volunteers, event organisers, sponsors and supporters to help drive future fundraising initiatives. If you would like to get involved, have an idea to share, or feel you can support the club in any capacity, please do not hesitate to contact a member of the committee.
We would love to hear from you.
