South Wilts U15s produced an outstanding all-round performance to defeat Potterne by seven wickets and lift the Wiltshire U15 Vitality T20 Cup.
After winning the toss and electing to field, South Wilts immediately seized control through a disciplined bowling display backed up by excellent fielding. Wickets fell at regular intervals as Potterne struggled to build any meaningful partnerships.
Oscar Whiting was the pick of the attack with 3 for 24 from his three overs, while Ivo Leyland and Asher Osborn each claimed two wickets. Jacob Nash delivered a miserly spell of 2 for 5 from two overs, including a maiden, helping squeeze the life out of the Potterne innings. Callum Foot also chipped in with a wicket as Potterne were bowled out for just 88 in 15.1 overs.
South Wilts needed only 89 for victory and their reply got off to a brisk start. Freddie Jones struck an early boundary before Callum Foot took the attack to the Potterne bowlers, blasting 31 from just 18 balls, including five fours and a six. His aggressive innings swung the momentum firmly in South Wilts’ favour and put the target well within reach.
Ivo Leyland then continued his excellent all-round day, following up his two wickets with an unbeaten 24 from 19 balls, while Oscar Whiting added a quickfire 8 from only three deliveries. South Wilts reached their target in just eight overs, finishing on 89 for 3 and sealing a comprehensive seven-wicket victory.
The victory crowns South Wilts as Wiltshire U15 champions and attention now turns to the next stage of the competition. As county champions, South Wilts will host the Somerset champions at Bemerton on 5 July in a regional play-off. With a place in the next round at stake, the team will be looking to carry this excellent form into another big occasion.
Congratulations to all the players, coaches, volunteers and supporters on a fantastic achievement and on becoming Wiltshire U15 champions.
