South Wilts U19s produced a superb all-round performance to finish their league campaign in style with a commanding 156-run victory over Bradford on Avon.
Captain Alex Vincent elected to bat first and his side immediately put the visitors under pressure. Although Max Cordle fell early, there was no let-up as the innings became an exhibition of positive strokeplay.
Gabriel Williams blasted a superb 52 from just 19 balls before retiring, while skipper Alex Vincent added a blistering 46 from only 16 deliveries. George Gundill continued the momentum with an unbeaten 51 retired, supported by valuable contributions from Will Welsh (20), Thomas Barrett (21), Jake Redding (31) and George Nash (14) as South Wilts piled up an imposing 266 for 7 from their 20 overs.
With such a daunting target to defend, the South Wilts bowlers and fielders never allowed Bradford on Avon to settle.
Jonas Ball was the pick of the attack with an excellent 3 for 21, while Gabriel Williams followed up his explosive half-century with an excellent spell of 2 for 6, using his variations to great effect. Charlie Allom, George Nash and Ed Welsh all chipped in with a wicket apiece as Bradford on Avon were restricted to 110 for 9.
Behind the stumps, Alex Vincent also enjoyed an outstanding evening in the field, claiming three stumpings and a catch to complete an excellent all-round captain's performance.
The victory means South Wilts finish the South Group having won four matches – the most of any side in the group. After having to concede one fixture against Burbage due to player availability, with several squad members away on representative cricket duties and the club's U15 tour, the team currently sits second in the table.
With other group fixtures still to be completed, South Wilts now await confirmation of their final finishing position and quarter-final opponents as they look to continue their excellent form in the knockout stages.
